The blog is about life, youth, creativity and finding purpose. Ispasiyo has my stories and thoughts about the struggles and pleasures of everyday life; of trying to live a life that is purposeful and worthwhile. It's about empowerment and finding balance. I will write about career choices, learning how to deal with responsibilities & newly found independence while balancing a checkbook.

I am still in transit. Like many others, I don't have everything figured out. I have more questions than answers and everyday is a pursuit to find the balance between pursuing visions and dreams that I am passionate about AND making a living.

ABOUT THE NAME AND MISSION 

The name of the blog actually came before the idea of starting a blog. I wanted a brand  that reflects my dreams and what I ultimately wanted to do. "Ispasiyo" is a Filipino word, which means space. It's the name of the site that I am still currently working on. The idea was to create and share an empowering space where one does not have to be overly concerned about limitations and constraints. I wanted a place to learn, dream, aspire, create and hopefully inspire; a place for ideas, visual concepts and random musings. I wanted an ispasiyo (a space) to curate what I believe makes life worthwhile.

One day, [I]spasiyo will be a physical place, with similar vision and mission as this blog. 

  

HOW THE BLOG CAME ABOUT 

I love writing. Ever since I was little, I figured it was something I would like to and should try to pursue. So, naturally when I heard of and started reading blogs, I wanted to try it out too. However, being the impatient person that I can be (wanting instant successful results), I had quit and restarted blogging multiple times before finally coming up with Ispasiyo. Ispasiyo was a product of multiple conversations with friends and Mean Bean. Early 2012, I was having one of my manically productive times, where my head was buzzing with ideas and my brain was flooded with things I wanted to do or try out. I figured I had to take advantage of my productive buzz and actually do something--so I entertained blogging. The problem was in finding a focus or niche since I like too many things and try too many hobbies. 

Many conversations, brainstorming, free writing and even more conversations later and I finally got it.  I wanted to write a ordinary lifestyle blog. Mainly because most of the other lifestyle blogs (which I do enjoy and love to read) often made me feel like my life isn't exciting enough, or that I needed to go shopping for make-up and clothes. I felt that there were very few blogs that mirrored the average, the ordinary and the regular. I wanted to write about ordinary everyday life, and emphasize the pleasures and average problems that comes along with it.

Hi, I am Denise. I am Filipino. I was born and raised in the Philippines, then moved to the U.S. to study and work, and then finally I ended up in Canada. I'm an ordinary young adult, who's really just trying to adjust and assimilate into adulthood.
